Craft Winemaking at Pippin Hill Vineyard

Crafting the finest Virginia estate wines is our passion and our purpose. Pippin Hill is delighted to partner with Michael Shaps of Virginia Wineworks to oversee our boutique-scale production. After harvesting at their prime, our grapes go through “Custom Crush” processing—the initial crush, quality evaluation, stainless and French Oak barrel fermentation, blending, filtering and bottling.

Winetasting at Pippin Hill

What better way to appreciate wines and winemaking than to enjoy a glass here, where the grapes are grown. We offer reservations so that you can enjoy, learn about, and sip on our award-winning wines along with our food pairings menu. Enjoy our signature Sauvignon Blancs, crisp Blanc de Blancs, barrel fermented Chardonnays, Cabernet Francs and other varietals in our breathtaking setting.

Wine Tasting Experiences

Estate Tour & Tasting

Join us for a unique, in-depth exploration of our wines, vines, and land. The experience starts with a glass of award-winning bubbly and a guided tour of our Estate vines. The tour is followed by an intimate tasting featuring a selection of six exclusive Reserve and Library wines and concludes with culinary favorites such as our cheese & charcuterie board and seasonal burrata. For those intrigued by all things wine, this immersive tasting celebrates the art of viticulture and Virginia terroir.

The Estate Tasting is by reservation only, for up to 10 guests, and is available to book Fridays through Sundays. The tour and wine tasting portion of the experience will last approximately 90 minutes. You will then have the option to enjoy your seasonal culinary treats with us at a dedicated table where you can enjoy our full Pippin menu or take them with you to-go. $100 per person (tax and gratuity not included).

Wine Flights

No matter where you sit, our scenic Tasting Room, Veranda and Lawn offer spectacular views of the Blue Ridge perfect for enjoying our wine flights. Simply make your reservation or walk-in to sip in the sun and sample our winemakers current flight favorites.

Sustainable Viticulture

Pippin Hill is committed to protecting and preserving the rural agrarian health and beauty of our vineyard and farm environs. We proactively embrace and follow environmentally sound and supportive viticulture practices, minimizing chemical repellents and optimizing natural sprays to keep our vines productive and our land healthy.

Terroir

“Terroir” in French winemaking terminology means the holistic interface of environment and earth. In other words, the elements and conditions in which wine is produced (elevation, sunlight, soil, topography, water, climate). Pippin Hill’s ideal terroir features a stable foundation of granitic pre-Cambrian formation, a deep groundwater aquifer and soils from two ancient and four alluvial fans.

Monticello Wine Trail

We at Pippin Hill tip our hat to TJ, “America’s first distinguished viticulturist.” And we are thrilled to have realized the dream that Mr. Jefferson never achieved—producing world-class wines in his native state. Pippin Hill is honored to be among 25 other vineyards and wineries on the Monticello Wine Trail here in the Birthplace of American Wine.
