Happy National Chardonnay Day!

Everyday is a great day to celebrate wine. Today, however, we focus on our variety of Chardonnays– the Chardonnay 2017, Chardonnay Reserve 2018, and Sparkling Blanc de Blanc 2018. Earlier this year, our Chardonnay Reserve 2018 and Sparkling Blanc de Blanc 2018 were both Silver Medal recipients at the 2020 Governor’s Cup.

No matter what blend you choose to celebrate with, let’s cheers to this wonderful holiday!


CHARDONNAY 2017

Our 2017 Chardonnay offers aromas of juniper and vanilla with hints of oak that extend to the palate.  A balanced acidity and integrated oak notes complement the golden apple and Asian pear that linger on the palate. This Chardonnay finishes with a tart acidity, which makes it a wonderful pairing wine or one to enjoy on its own. We recommend serving with mild, buttery or creamy dishes. Try with a meaty fish (halibut, cod) and shellfish (lobster, shrimp, crab, scallops). It even pairs well with subtly flavored, simply seasoned poultry and pork dishes.

CHARDONNAY RESERVE 2018

Of the Chardonnays we produce, we use only the highest quality grapes in this Reserve vintage. We take inspiration from Burgundy winemaking techniques. Aging 9 months in oak, this wine is complex with aromas of citrus, jasmine, and vanilla. While there are fruit flavors of peach and nectarine, we also find a warm flavor of banana. The clean finish offers medium oak and acidity making it a perfect food pairing wine. As with our other Chardonnays, balance is key. Maintaining the creamy mouth-feel from full malolactic fermentation makes for the most complex of our white wines.

SPARKLING BLANC DE BLANC 2018

Our Clovergreen and Grapelawn vineyards are home to our Chardonnay grapes, both of which are in this Blanc de Blanc. Careful monitoring of our brix levels during harvest pinpoint which blocks are best utilized in our sparkling wine. Partial malolactic fermentation of these Chardonnay grapes ensures the wine receives both the old and new world styles of this versatile varietal. This 2018 vintage offers aromas of vanilla, pear and lime, leading to layered and creamy flavors of honeysuckle, vanilla and golden delicious apple. The finish is lean and zesty, with equal parts acidity and tartness, making these bubbles turn any occasion into a celebration! The driest of out three Chardonnays, this wine pairs well with cheeses and seafood.
