What’s your role at Pippin Hill?
My primary role is as Wine Director. I touch on everything having to do with the wine. . . keeping updated on the progress of the grapes in the vineyards, with our Vineyard Management teams, planning of a vintage years’ production in case quantities, blending trials with the winemaker’s to determine our wine program style and direction, taking part in all the bottlings at the winery, writing tasting notes for our menus and staff and generally following inventories around Pippin Hill. I also manage the Pippin Hill Wine Club!
How did you make your way into the hospitality industry?
I have been in the hospitality industry, in some part, for as long as I can remember. Those jobs and experiences led me to the wine industry and I fell in love!
What is your favorite food and wine pairing at Pippin Hill?
I would never be able to choose just one wine and one food. I’m so fond and proud of both our wine and food programs, I wouldn’t be able to narrow it down. Last week, while I was writing the tasting notes for our 2015 Blanc de Blanc, I had an opportunity to taste the Blue Crab Cocktail, and it was outstanding. The pairing with the Blanc de Blanc was perfect, it complemented all flavors in the dish and both are a particular favorite of mine right now.
What’s your favorite part about working at Pippin Hill?
Again, hard to narrow that down to one favorite thing. . . .the people, such a creative, knowledgeable and dedicated staff, all the way around, are a huge part of why I love my job. I’ve learned so much from so many. And of course the wine and the food. . . .who wouldn’t love my job!
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love family time, good food and live music, and of course, visiting other wineries. . . . and I’m a voracious reader.
