Everyone loves a fun, Friday fieldtrip!  After a productive branding meeting with our colleagues at Payne, Ross & Associates – making decisions on our logo! – the joint Easton Events / Pippin Hill teams piled into the car and headed off to visit our winemaker, Michael Shaps at Virginia Wineworks.

Located in the former Montdomaine winery just 12 miles south of Charlottesville, Virginia Wineworks is a multifaceted winery operation that produces wines under both the Virginia Wineworks label & the Michael Shaps label.  In addition, Virginia Wineworks is the first winery in Virginia to offer custom winemaking services.  This unique ‘custom crush’ process allows boutique wineries such as Pippin Hill to capitalize on Michael’s expertise and Virginia Wineworks’ facilities.

Michael and his team have been working around-the-clock to finish harvesting the red grape varietals, while white grapes – like our Chardonnay and Viognier – are busy fermenting in large, steel barrels.  Michael takes us through the various stages in the production process… explaining the grape’s journey from vine to glass.  The best part?  We got to taste Pippin Hill wines straight from the barrels, in the various fermentation phases.  And it was delicious!

I can only imagine how much better it will taste from a Pippin Hill bottle while sitting on the Veranda Terrace on a perfect spring day enjoying THIS view… ahhh, the sweet life!
