We are so thrilled to announce to you that our Pippin Hill wines have been awarded thirteen medals for the 2020 Virginia Governor’s Cup! At the start of each new year, wineries across Virginia submit their finest wines into the prestigious, four-week Wine Competition. This 38th year of the competition, over 530 different wines were sampled by 19 world-class judges, and only 64 were awarded gold medals, three of which we will be bringing home to our Vineyard!

This year’s prestigious panel of judges was directed by Jay Youmans –  one of the only fifty-one Masters of Wine in the United States –  who has now overseen the competition for nine years. The panel ranks each wine based on a unified scoring system Any wine made from 100% Virginia fruit is eligible for the Governor’s Cup Competition, and submission entries require an affidavit certifying 100% Virginia fruit and vineyard particulars, including grower names and location, as well as information on alcohol, acidity or basicity (pH) and residual sugar.

Chef Ian will be incorporating special food pairings to each of our Governor Cup Wine winners each weekend throughout the Spring. Be on the lookout for these pairings – you won’t want to miss them!

We’re thrilled to also announce that our 2017 Petit Verdot secured a spot in the 2020 Virginia Governor’s Cup Case! This Case represents 12 of the top-scoring red and white wines made from 100% Virginia fruit in the Virginia Wineries Association’s Governor’s Cup Competition, so we’re proud to have received this additional recognition.
