It’s a love story, really. Which is how all good stories begin. And so it is with Pippin Hill—the lovechild of proprietors, and husband and wife team, Lynn Easton and Dean Andrews. Lynn and Dean (as you’ll read below) have a combined wealth of professional experience in luxury properties and bespoke events, and Pippin Hill represents the marrying of their complementary talents, in a place they love—the undulating green hills of Virginia’s wine country. Here they have brought together a team of hospital pros who share their love of this place. A farm family. A vineyard ripe with people who love peolpe and love what they do—ready to welcome you.

Meet Dean and Lynn

As the senior operating officer for Orient-Express Hotels, Ltd., Dean Porter Andrews ran some of the world’s most exclusive properties. He’s acquired, repositioned and operated resorts, boutique hotels, large luxury hotels and five-star restaurants across the globe, and for more than 30 years in the hotel management industry, has elevated the standards of excellence in the hospitality industry worldwide.

To complement Dean’s luxury property background, Lynn Easton brings her expert eye and events mastermind. As founder of Easton Events, a leading event planning and design companies, Lynn’s classic taste and bespoke events and weddings have earned her a devoted following as well as a nod as one of “The 10 Most Inspiring People” by The Knot magazine. Her work has been widely published including Martha Stewart, Town & Country, The Knot, Southern Weddings and Southern Living Weddings.

  • Chris Hill Vineyard Consultant

    Acclaimed and Accomplished Vine Whisperer

    Chris Hill has more than three decades of experience in the vineyard and wine industry, and knows agriculture and the subtleties of grape growing better than anyone in Virginia.

    His depth of trial-and-error knowledge includes vineyard design, ideal grape varieties, how to put up trellises, what and when to spray, how to prune and when to pick. Chris serves on the Board of Virginia Vineyard and Winery Associations.

  • Amalia Scatena Culinary Director

    Queen of Taste and All Things Delicious

    Raised in San Francisco among a kitchen-centric Italian family, Amalia’s passion for food was fueled equally by her parents and by the great Bay Area chefs they exposed her to, especially Alice Waters and Hubert Keller.

    An honors graduate of the Advanced Culinary Arts Professional Program from the Culinary Institute of Florence, Amalia apprenticed under Chef Melissa Close at Barboursville Vineyard’s Palladio restaurant, before joining the culinary team at Keswick Hall, where she worked for five years under Chef Craig Hartman. Amalia served as Executive Chef of Pippin Hill for two years, and now directs the culinary program for all Easton Porter properties in Charlottesville and in Charleston, South Carolina.

    Kitchen Magician and Chief Culinary Artist

    Bill’s formal training as a sculptor and artist is evident in his exquisite culinary craftsmanship. His medium of choice is farm fresh ingredients, and he delights in bringing out their best flavor.

    Bill creates delicious food that is also visually beautiful, because, as he says, “You eat with your eyes first.” A native of California, Bill apprenticed under Craig Hartman at Keswick Hall in 2012. His natural affinity behind the line and his expertise in farm-to-table cuisine catapulted him from line cook to sous chef, and now at Pippin Hill, to Executive Chef. Bill oversees à la carte food and wine pairings in the Tasting Room, leads our artisan catering team and teaches at the Pippin Hill Cooking School.

  • Michael Shaps Winemaker

    One to Whom Grapes Bow Down

    Michael Shaps is the founder of Michael Shaps/Virginia Wineworks. He has been making wine for more than 20 years, the past seventeen in Virginia and Meursault, France.

    In Virginia, Michael was the winemaker at Jefferson Vineyards for 6 years before leaving to start his winery-consulting firm and to produce wines under the Michael Shaps label. The Michael Shaps award winning wines have been recognized by several regional and national publications as some of the best wines made in Virginia.l.
